Winhanganha-yahni - We Remember
‘Winhanganha-yanhi – We Remember’ Exhibition at Narrandera Arts Centre, Tuesday 11th November 2025 – Sunday 7th December 2025.
Indigenous war veterans, even after many years in the public eye, still have not been fully and rightfully honoured across the nation. A new exhibition, Winhanganha-yahni – We Remember, brings awareness to Indigenous veterans in the Western Riverina through artistic expression, depth and significance.
Opening on Remembrance Day at 11am, the program begins with a ceremony in the Bolton Room at the Narrandera Ex-Servicemen’s Club, commemorating Indigenous veterans. This will be followed by a smoking ceremony honouring indigenous veterans and an exhibition opening at the Narrandera Arts and Community Centre. The exhibition will run for five weeks.
The project is a collaboration between Wiradjuri artists Leila Constable and Bernard Higgins. A major three-panel visual artwork by Leila expresses the national story of Indigenous veterans fighting to protect unceded sacred lands and their enormous contributions during the World Wars.
Bernard Higgins has captured this story through a series of projected and animated poems that express the contrariety, rejection and disloyalty of a nation against its own people who were sent to combat in other countries.
The poems also explore the return from war to a life of suffering, incarceration and land loss, as well as fortitude and unending love of Country.

Country Arts Support Program Closing Soon

Submissions close Monday, 27 October, and Western Riverina Arts encourages all eligible groups to apply before the deadline.

Support the Arts this AusArt Day
This October, Western Riverina Arts is proud to take part in AusArt Day a national day dedicated to celebrating and supporting the arts in Australia. Falling on October 23 2025, AusArt Day is an opportunity to recognise the creative spirit that shapes our communities and to take meaningful action to sustain it.
Western Riverina Arts plays a vital role in nurturing creativity across the Leeton, Griffith, Narrandera and Murrumbidgee local government areas. From delivering workshops and exhibitions to supporting local artists and community-led projects, our small team works tirelessly to connect people through creativity and culture.

Congratulations on Mama Mia!
We would like to take a moment to celebrate and thank the wonderful director Oumi Karenga-Hewitt and the dedicated team behind the Griffith Community Musical production of Mamma Mia!
The blood, sweat and tears that go into a production are always worth it when opening night arrives and everything just clicks, creating a touch of magic.
In case you missed it, Mamma Mia! is a romantic comedy exploring the dreams and aspirations of a 70s girl and a 90s girl. Through the storytelling magic of ABBA’s songs, we meet Donna, a feisty, independent single parent who doesn’t need a man to make her life complete, and her twenty-year-old daughter Sophie, who dreams of romance, babies and a big, white wedding. If only her father could give her away…
Congratulations on a sold-out season, and thank you to everyone for your hard work and dedication.

Dusky Dawn Sale
A rare opportunity has arisen to acquire Dusky Dawn, a major painting by the late Veronica Collins. Recognised as one of the Riverina’s most accomplished artists, Veronica’s influence continues to be deeply felt throughout the creative community.
Her works are seldom made available for purchase, making this a once-in-a-lifetime chance to secure a piece of remarkable artistic and cultural importance.
Dusky Dawn stands as one of Veronica’s most significant works — a large-scale painting that honours both her legacy and the rich creative heritage of our region.
Pricing expectations begin at $14,000, reflecting the scale and significance of the piece.
Enquiries and private viewings can be arranged through Western Riverina Arts staff, and we will connect interested parties directly with the artist’s family.
This is an extraordinary opportunity for collectors, organisations and art appreciators alike to celebrate and preserve the legacy of a truly exceptional regional artist.

YACTAC Bioblitz - Increasing biodiversity awareness through Citizen Science.
The 'Great Southern BioBlitz', or 'GSB' for short, is an international period of intense biological surveying in an attempt to record all the living species within several designated areas across the Southern Hemisphere in Spring.
The purpose of this event is to highlight both the immense biodiversity spread across the Southern Hemisphere in the flourishing springtime, as well as to engage the public in science and nature learning using the citizen science platform iNaturalist. As we are international, in Spanish we are known as 'Gran Biobúsqueda del Sur', while in Portuguese we are known as 'Grande BioBlitz do Hemisfério Sul'.
By the end of November, the natural world is on full throttle. Flowers are blooming, insects are emerging, birds are singing, and reptiles are coming out of their winter hibernation. It makes sense for the Southern Hemisphere to observe life at this time of year!
The GSB25 will be held from the 24th until the 27th of October, incorporating different communities, areas and regions across the Southern Hemisphere.
YACTAC and Refreshing Rivers have organised an event in Jerilderie on Friday 24th October. This event will include a community gathering for lunch. All you need is access to a phone or ipad, take some photos, and upload to the iNaturalist App. A simple screen recording of this process will be uploaded soon. If you can't make it to the event, go for a walk around your home, in the park, down by the creek, take some photos and upload to iNaturalist.

RANSW Quick Response Grants
Quick Response Grants are available on a monthly basis from February to November, with all applications being competitively assessed at the end of each month. The grant amounts vary, with individuals able to apply for up to $3000 and organisations up to $5000, though there is no minimum grant amount. It’s important to note that there is a limited funding pool, so accurate budgeting is crucial to ensure you are only applying for the amount you truly need.
These grants are designed to assist with urgent needs that may arise unexpectedly and are not covered by other funding rounds. This includes opportunities such as professional development, skills development, and small projects that require immediate attention.
Projects funded by the Quick Response Grants must begin within 2–12 weeks of the closing date of the round in which the application is made. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their applications no later than 5 business days after the end of each month’s assessment.
