New Starter at Western Riverina Arts!

Yiradhu Marang! yuwin ngadhi Lyllardya Briggs-Houston and I’m the new Projects and Communication Officer at Western Riverina Art. I’m a very proud Wiradjuri/Yorta Yorta/Gangulu woman raised predominately on my maternal grandmothers traditional country in Narrandera. I’ve recently returned home to accept this amazing opportunity provide by Western Riverina Art and I could not be happier.

I have a very varied background working within Aboriginal affairs, integrity agencies and event management while also juggling my creative endeavours as a textile artist, printmaker and designer. I’ve recently established my own label called Ngarru Miimi which expressed the strength, unity and culture of my people. Through art and design, my goal is to inspire all to feel the same sense of strength, pride and connection that we feel as Aboriginal people and to collectively showcase Aboriginal art and culture as a daily reminder that we always have, and always will, stand strong on our traditional lands.

I’m looking forward to combining my professional and creative strengths to engage with artists, as well as showcase the wide variety of art and promote opportunities available to our region. I’m also particularly interested in helping strengthen and culturally support the presence of Aboriginal artists within Western Riverina.

I encourage all to reach out, say hello or have a yarn with me at comms@westrivarts.com.au.

Mandaang Guwu,

Lyllardya Briggs-Houston
