NAIDOC Week 2018

NAIDOC Week 2018 will be held nationally from Sunday 8th July to Sunday 15th July with the theme "Because of Her, We Can!" recognising the significant roles Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have played on a local, state, and national level. 

To celebrate NAIDOC week locally the following celebrations are occurring in the Western Riverina region: 

Friday 6th July 11:00am: Dreamtime Storytime - Griffith City Library

Children will listen to dreamtime stories and afterwards create their own NAIDOC library bags with Veronica Collins.

Monday 9th July 10:00am: Flag raising ceremony - Outside Griffith City Council Chambers

Wednesday 11th July 11:30am - 1:30pm: NAIDOC Week BBQ - Griffith Base Hospital Grounds. 

Thursday 12th July 6pm - 8pm : NAIDOC Week event and floor talk - Griffith Regional Art Gallery 

A floor talk by Michael Bell, Indigenous Liaison Officer from Australian War Memorial will be held at the Griffith Regional Art Gallery focusing on the current exhibition For Country, For Nation highlighting the military service and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Saturday 14th July 10am - 3pm: Weaving Workshop - Darlington Point.

A weaving workshop will be held at the Waddi House and Advancement Corporation, 11 Carrington Street Darlington Point. Local artist Kerrie Weymouth will deliver the workshop with the assistance of the MAKE group of Darlington Point. The workshop is free and materials are supplied.
