2 writing competitions now open
There are currently 2 writing competitions now open in the Hunter region which are open to all Australian residents: The Newcastle Poetry Prize and the Grieve Writing Competition.
The Grieve Writing Competition is based on grief and loss and has a prize pool of over $8500 for 2018. There are 2 categories to enter:
Prose piece up to 500 words
Poem up to 36 lines.

The Newcastle Poetry Prize is in its 37th year and is one of Australia's most prestigious poetry prizes, this year with a total prize pool of $22,000:
1st Prize $15 000 / 2nd Prize $5 000 / 3rd Prize $1000 / Highly Commended $200 / Local Award $200 / HWC Members’ Award $200 provided by the University of Newcastle, and the Harri Jones Memorial Prize – $500 Awarded to a poet under 36 years of age.
