ArtSpace at Griffith Regional Theatre is thrilled to be hostingits next exhibition featuring works by former Western Riverina local Joanna Chauncy

Joanna Chauncy is a Visual Artist and native to the Western Riverina, having grown-up on a property near Coleambally. She now finds herself living and practicing drawing and painting in Melbourne.

The exhibition Currents is a body of work created by Ms Chauncy whilst residing in the Riverina, particularly Wagga Wagga and Darlington Point. Her work explores real and imagined landscapes and everyday objects.

Developed over a period of two years in rural regional and urban locations, Ms Chauncy’s work explores connections to momentary everyday experiences.

Griffith Regional Art Gallery Coordinator, Ray Wholohan described the exhibition as an exciting combination of works on paper using mixed media, primarily acrylic, oils, charcoal and pencil.

“My Chauncy’s work has been created with a defined sense of place. Her imagery evokes the landscape of the Western Riverina, where she has spent most of her life. The preoccupation of the exhibition is the landscape and landmarks in both a literal and metaphorical sense.”

Mr Wholohan added, “The exhibition will be stimulating to anyone with an interest in landscape painting, modern art or the natural landscape of the Western Riverina.”

Ms Chauncy said she is so happy to have her first solo exhibition in the Western Riverina.

“I hope viewers of the exhibition can share my connection to place and my love of this unique landscape”, she said.
