SEPTEMBER WRAP-UP

Sophie Chauncy was an Artist in Residence at the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery's E3 Space as part of the Regional Arts Development program. Sophie worked both en plein air and on-site to create large process driven and experimental mixed media works on paper. “I am interested in a process that concerns working at one with the landscape through ‘collaborating’ with elements of the land itself." The Collide Community Art Exhibition, curated by Camille Whitehead saw over 40 works from 27 Riverina artists displayed at the Leeton Museum and Gallery. The exhibition of non-traditional portraiture reflected on the connections shared with those closest to us in varied mediums such as sculpture, performance, music, encaustic, collage and mixed media.

Lindee Russell’s exhibition at the Narrandera Arts and Community Centre 'Let’s Walk' showcased popular local walking places through a series of intricate textile and mixed media pieces created from recycled and gathered materials. The exhibition which was extremely popular with art collectors was part of NACNet's Wide Open Program.

The inFrequency tour rumbled through Yanco in September as a diverse line-up brought their audiovisual performances to town. Organised by Jason Richardson, the event saw Bernard Gray, Bassling, Dron Skot, DJ Ruined My Wedding Day and Myst-Mach perform and give demonstrations of video projection-mapping and live-coding. Read more.

Robert Sherwood Duffield has spent four weeks as artist in residence at the Tanks Arts Centre and Cairns Botanic Gardens. This has resulted in a body of work 'Botanical Mysteries' which will be exhibited Botanic Garden Visitor Centre throughout October. Find out more. Image: ABC Far North.

Seven acrobats and thirty metres of rope... Long spools of white rope run through pulley sheaves and wrap around bodies, explicitly connecting the artists’ movements above and off the ground. Like the booms and sheets of a sailing ship the performers are hoisted and swung by one another to create striking tableaux and breath-taking dynamics. The actions of one acrobat affect and implicate the movements of others in a precise negotiation of cause and effect.
