The Joyce Spencer Fellowship is a new initiative that supports textile artists based in regional NSW to develop and present new work. The $4000 fellowship will be used for Dr Hamm to present a new exhibition of work in 2021 at Burraja Gallery in Albury, before touring to Griffith Regional Art Gallery and the Narrandera Arts and Community Centre.

“As an artist and teacher, I am very honoured to receive the Joyce Spencer Fellowship in its inaugural year. I was first drawn to Joyce's art and story which highlighted many parallels of my own life experiences - being a regional artist, connecting with my culture through my arts practice and having a love for the environment, wildlife and learning. I was inspired by Joyce's openness for sharing personal and artistic skills through teaching, and, the many people who benefitted from the encouragement that Joyce gave during her lifetime,” reflected Dr Hamm.

Jason Richardson: Soundscapes
Jason Richardson's Soundscapes exhibition is open at the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery until October 4. Jason Richardson’s practice continues to reflect a deep connection to the environment. Living and working in a regional context provides an endless source of inspiration as he documents landscapes and shared public spaces.

Aanya Whitehead, ED of Western Riverina Arts visited the exhibition: "Jason, an artist based in Leeton, records the internal of objects, and travels widely to visit various landscapes, objects and settings to do this. It is utterly fascinating. He explains in the exhibit his use of contact microphones, and then creates and composes complex and in-depth sound explorations of these. I especially was moved by the electric guitar being played by the wind in front of the enormous canoe tree in Whitton, such a haunting piece. I really encourage people to see Soundscapes."
